Traditional New Years meal

Every year it's the same, black-eyed peas and cabbage. Gotta have 'em. The peas are supposed to bring you luck and the cabbage is supposed to bring you money. Guess I'd be lucky to have money.

Do you guys have a traditional food?

this year we had homemade lasagna and tiramisu, with storebought alcohol, bread, and salad. mmmm

Nothing traditional here, but this year we did make your own pizzas. The kids love that.

We have blackeyed peas and ham. The peas on New Year's for luck are a southern tradition. I was born in Dallas, so we just follow it. We soak them for a couple of days, and then stick them in the crockpot with other dry (soaked) beans, beef broth, seasonings, onions, and some ham chunks. Delicious when they are done.

The canned ones are just nasty. Run screaming if anyone tries to make you eat them.

Don't really know about tradition. Most people I know eat pork in some sort of fashion on New Years. My neighbor was making pork chops and saurkraut. I have heard this a lot.

Me? We had meatball sandwiches and salad, and lots of wine. I even made the meatballs,and sauce. No jar stuff today.

On Chinese New Year (Jan 22nd this year), you offer the Dragon Cabbage or Lettuce or leafy greens of some kind. Many Chinese business' get the Dragon to dance thru the establishment every New Year. Its to chase any bad sprits away and ensure the place has a prosperous year. So it kind of a similar reason.
